Qualcomm announces its new Snapdragon X Elite Chipet at their Snapdragon Summit 2023 held at Maui in Hawaii, United States. The company started promoting and announced its new X branding for Snapdragon at the beginning of this month. Qualcomm has now launched the Snapdragon X Elite platform of chipsets with an Orygon CPU.
This new chipset series with Orygon CPU promises double the performance compared to the other players in the market. The new high-end chipset from the brand hopes to capture a good amount of the PC chipset market performing with good efficiency.
Let’s take a look at the key factors and overall offering of this new chipset from Qualcomm.
Snapdragon X Elite is Qualcomm’s Powerful Yet Efficient Chipset for Laptops
The Snapdragon X Elite is made on a 4nm node process with 12 Oryon high-performing cores clocked at 3.8 GHz. There’s a single and dual-core boost of up to 4.3 GHz on the chipset. Besides, the company claims that the new chipset can give a run to the Intel 13th Gen chipset. This can be achieved through the multi-threaded performance and uses 68% less power.
In terms of comparison with Apple’s M2 Chipset, the X Elite is 50% quicker with the performance in the multi-threaded mode. The new X Elite chipset from the brand comes as a massive leap from its predecessor 8XC chipsets but we’d have to wait for benchmarks.
Coming to the graphics, Qualcomm says that the performance is doubled when compared to the Intel Core i7-13800H. Moreover, the power consumption of the chipset in comparison to the Intel chipset is 74 percent less. X Elite features an integrated Adreno GPU rated at 4.6 TFLOPs with support for DirectX 12 API.
The chipset has the capability to run up to 3x external UHD monitors at 60Hz. Besides, it comes with support for 4K60 10-bit encodes and decodes for H.264, HEVC (H.265), and AV1 files. Qualcomm has even included a Hexagon NPU with 45 TOPs that helps in completing Generative AI tasks.
Speaking of the storage options, the chipset supports LPDDR5x RAM with up to 136 GB/s memory bandwidth A total cache of 42 MB alongside PCIe Gen4 or UFS 4.0 storage. The connectivity options on the chipset include FastConnect 7800 System with support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
Furthermore, Snapdragon X65 5G modem for cellular connectivity with up to 10 Gbps peak download speeds. The X Elite comes with Qualcomm Aqstic DAC for lossless audio playback. Lastly. the chipset comes with a Qualcomm Spectra image signal processor (ISP) with support for up to 36MP dual cameras and 4K HDR video capture.
